Jason's Hearts: Local boy leaves legacy of love and support for special needs children!
Mid-shore Mom, Kendra Sanders, turns her grief into gratitude as she establishes a foundation to support local special needs children.
About Jason's Heart
Jason's Heart is a foundation set up in loving memory of our son Jason Philip Sanders. Our goal is to help provide funding and support for Special Needs Children. Jason was unable to walk, talk, eat or even sit up during his 7 years of life. In spite of these limitations, Jason was able to create an instant bond with countless people. This bond helped people who may have felt intimidated by the severely disabled. Jason made everybody feel comfortable and they reached out to him. Jason was an incredible gift. Not only to our family, but to the entire community. Jason is a constant reminder that no matter how frail, how weak or how “not normal”, every life has value. His smile was genuine, his laugh was contagious and his heart was pure. Anyone who has been fortunate enough to know him, came away a better person. Jason has the ability to touch hearts and change perceptions without saying a single word. We could never have given him as much as he has given us.
We would like for Jason's spirit to live on. Your purchase will help support Camp Lazy Days, a summer camp for disabled children, like Jason. This camp provides opportunities for recreation, growth and development, that they might not otherwise have. Our goal is simple. We want every child, regardless of their handicap or ability to pay, to have a chance to experience camp. These are Jason’s friends and we feel certain that he would be excited, knowing that nobody was left out.

In Memory of Jason Philip Sanders
June 26, 2002 – October 18, 2009
These hearts were designed specifically for the Jason's Heart Foundation. This will be a limited edition run of 200 pieces. They are signed and numbered. We will release them as they are completed and ready to ship. Each one will be unique... the jump rings are sterling silver, the ribbons are custom hand died silk by Julie Mitchell, the slider bead that makes them adjustable is also hand made to match and they come packaged with great care. Absolutely every thing was done to honor the life of a special soul and I am grateful to do work with such purpose.
The first run of Jason's Hearts is ready. VERY VERY limited quantities at this point, with a total of only 200 available in 2010. If they are sold out, please send an email to kendra1966@yahoo.com with "Jason's Heart" in the subject line and you will receive an email as new batches become available.

Jumping into Social Media
by Cyndi Paxton Johnson
Every five to ten years the rules change - and we eventually change to accommodate them. Remember when we first discovered the internet? It started out as a way to chat with all kinds of people - and now it's THE primary mode of communication for most businesses. If you're in business - you need a website! It's also the FIRST source for information - about anything! (it's even faster to look up a word on dictionary.com than it is to dig out the actual dictionary!)
The last couple years have seen a HUGE influx into social networking - applications such as Digg, Facebook and Twitter. They also started out as a way to connect with friends (remember MySpace?) and are now being used by more and more businesses and non-profit groups!
It's all about connections.
On a purely personal level - social media helps me stay in touch with a wider range of friends, colleagues and community members. I've reconnected with childhood friends, old neighbors and fellow grad students through the wide net social media casts. I've also made new friends - many of whom I've never met in person - but we now share a relationship that includes mutual support and advice.
I primarily use Facebook and Twitter - and heartily recommend both! Many folks tell me they don't have time to add yet another item on their to-do list - but it doesn't have to take a lot of your time! (note - it can be addicting, especially at first. You have to be careful about the pure time-wasters [games, quizzes, etc], unless you have time to waste!)
